Abstract
Nantu wood (Palaquium Obovatum (Griff.) EngL) is a local plant from Central Sulawesi. Information on the physical and mechanical properties of nantu wood based on the axial and radial directions of the stem is still quite lacking, especially nantu wood from Lombonga Village, Balaesang District, Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi. The research method used is a factorial complete randomized design method, with factor P variation in axial direction and factor D variation in radial direction. Each treatment was repeated 3 times. The physical properties studied included moisture content, density, and shrinkage. The results showed that the fresh water content of nantu wood was 83.71%, the dry water content of nantu wood was 11.35%. The density value of nantu wood ranged from 0.32 gr/cm³-0.43gr/cm³. Radial shrinkage values ranged from 1.58%-6.13%, tangential ranged from 3.11%-7.02%. The MOE of nantu wood ranged from 27,671,631 kg/cm² - 55,114,865 kg/cm², MOR of nantu wood ranged from 421,857 kg/cm² - 584,399 kg/cm², and fiber parallel compression of nantu wood ranged from 148,878 kg/cm² - 220,054 kg/cm². nantu wood belongs to strength class III-V wood.
