Abstract

Uru (Magnolia tsiampacca (L.) Figlar & Noot) is a local plant originating from South Sulawesi. Information regarding the content of secondary metabolites and antioxidants has not been identified. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the content of secondary metabolites contained in Uru leaves and to determine their antioxidant activity. The method used in this research is descriptive method by looking at the changes in color and shape of the liquid on the compounds of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, carotenoids, terpenoids and steroids. Phytochemical analysis was carried out on the ethanol extract of the old and young leaves of Uru. The DPPH method was used to determine its antioxidant activity. The results of the phytochemical analysis obtained in the leaf extract of Uru (Magnolia tsiampacca (L.) Figlar & Noot) using 96% ethanol solvent, were positive for tannins in old leaves, steroids, and terpenoids in both types of leaves, while in alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and carotenoids showed negative results or no change in color or shape. The results of the antioxidant activity test on the old leaves of uru have an IC50 value of 195.894 ppm and are in the weak category, while the young leaves of uru have an IC50 value of 203.518 ppm and are in the very weak category.
