Abstract

Cempedak (Artocarpus integer Merr.) is a multipurpose tree species. This study aims to determine the effect of fruit maturity stages and seed position in the fruit of Artocarpus integer Merr. seed germination. The research was carried out for 3 months, namely from January to April 2021 in the BPDAS-HL Permanent Nursery of Palu Poso, Tadulako University, Palu, Central Sulawesi. This study arranged on a factorial complete randomized design. The first factor is the fruit maturity stage (W) which W1: greenish orange, W2: orange, W3: brownish orange; the second factor, namely the seed position on the fruit (L) consists of three positions, namely L1: The seeds at the base of the fruit; L2: The seeds in the middle of the fruit; and L3: The seeds at the end of the fruit. Parameters observed were percentage of germination, capasity of germination, and germination rate. Analysis of the data using a 5% F test variance, then continued by a 5% LSD test. The results showed that there is significant effect on the interaction between the fruit maturity level and seed position in fruit on the percentage of germination and capasity of germination, but no significant effect on the germination rate. W2L2 treatment resulted in the highest average germination percentage of 89.96% and W1L3 treatment produced an average germination capacity of 86.93%.
