Abstract

Land cover is the science of land use to achieve the welfare and progress of both society and the environment. Land cover and use change year after year, following population growth, which can impact the environment, including land use planning and the policies of a regional government. This research was conducted to determine changes in land cover in the Protected Forest Area of Kinovaro District, Sigi Regency with a period of 5 years using Landsat 8 Imagery in 2018 and 2023. This research was conducted for 3 months, namely from September to December in the Protected Forest Area of Kinovaro District, Sigi Regency using the supervised classification method with the Maximum Likelihood method on Landsat 8 Operational land Imager/Thermal Infrared Sensor (OLI/TIRS) Path 114 and Row 61 images recorded in September 2018 and recording in October 2023, field surveys, and accuracy tests using field data. The classification results show that land cover in 2018 and 2023 has 6 land cover classes, namely forests, shrubs, open land, water bodies, settlements, and plantations. For the accuracy test results, the level of accuracy and precision of the results of image management using the supervised classification method was 80%. The results of the study show that land cover in 2018 and 2023 has changed.
