Abstract

Dengen (Dillenia serrata) is an endemic plant of Sulawesi this type is very well known by the local
people of Sulawesi, especially South Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi. Information about the natural
durability of dengen wood is not widely known. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the
natural durability of dengen wood in the radial and axial directions against soil termite attacks using
the grave yard test method. This research has been carried out for three months, starting from
January to March 2022. The research method uses ASTM D 1758-06 on testing the resistance of wood
to wood-destroying organisms, which is compiled based on a factorial complete random design
(RALF), with factor A variation in axial direction and factor B variation in radial direction. Each
treatment is repeated 3 times. The data were analyzed using fingerprint analysis (Test F) and further
tested using The Real Honest Difference (BNJ) with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed
that the decrease in wood weight in the axial direction increased from the end, namely by 8.06%, to
the middle, which was 7.79%, and decreased at the base, which was 6.42% while in the radial
direction the part near the skin was the part that lost the most weight, which was 7.89% compared to
the transitional part of 7.56% and in the near-liver, which was 6.82%. The average result of the
percentage of weight loss obtained then showed that dengen wood belongs to the second grade of
durability (3.52 - 7.50) against soil termites.
